OPPORTUNITY ZONES
Synergy is actively focused on opportunity zone investments in the greater Boston and Worcester area.
The goal of the opportunity zone program is to spur private capital into under-invested, economically distressed communities to create a positive social and economic impact.
By investing capital gains into a qualified opportunity zone fund an investor can realize 3 significant tax benefits.

Step-up in basis
The basis for the deferred capital gains reinvested in an Opportunity Zone Fund is increased by 10% if the investment in the Fund is held by the taxpayer for at least 5 years and by an additional 5% if held for at least 7 years

Elimination
Complete elimination of taxes on gains from appreciation in the Opportunity Zone Fund if the investment is held for at least 10 years.

Deferral
A deferral of capital gains reinvested into an Opportunity Zone Fund until December 31, 2026.
