San Francisco-based Twitter Inc. will open its first Boston office at Center Plaza, a sprawling office and retail complex that formerly was home to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but has recently become a hub for tech companies including Grubhub and Spotify.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) will lease 44,000 square feet of former Localytics office space. It\u2019s the first Boston office for the social-media company, which has had <\/span>a Cambridge office since 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

Twitter confirmed the Boston lease to the Business Journal but declined to share any additional details, including how many employees will work at the office.<\/span><\/p>\n

Synergy Investments and GreenOak Capital bought Center Plaza <\/span>in 2017 for $365 million<\/a> and launched a repositioning, led by Boston-based CBT Architects. The renovations of the 741,000-square-foot complex include a new fitness center and amenity space with sports simulator, bike storage, exterior stairs and public art.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tech tenants\u2019 demand for office space in Boston has surged in recent years. Construction has begun on <\/span>Amazon.com Inc.\u2019s (Nasdaq: AMZN) 525,000-square-foot office in Boston\u2019s Seaport District.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Boston-based online fantasy sports betting company <\/span>DraftKings Inc. is expanding into Tishman Speyer\u2019s flexible co-working space in downtown just a few months after moving into its new 105,000-square-foot headquarters in Back Bay, and cybersecurity company <\/span>Rapid7 Inc. (Nasdaq: RPD) recently moved into its new headquarters at The Hub on Causeway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An industry source said Newmark Knight Frank represented building owner Synergy and GreenOak in the deal, while Cresa represented Twitter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
